Must Have Fall Eye Shadow Palette

If you're looking for the perfect palette to update your makeup look for fall, the Smashbox Cherry Smoke Photo Op Eye Shadow Palette is the one you need to add to your collection. The colors in this palette just scream fall and are absolutely beautiful.  The texture is buttery soft, the color payoff is remarkable and they blend like a dream.  Even the matte shadows are easy to blend.

I specifically purchased this palette for the shadow Rustic, the deep-nutmeg brown color.  I'm obsessed with it!  All of the colors are amazing but this color is my absolute favorite.  It's perfect on it's own, as a transition shade and great for blending out your eyeliner for that sultry, smokey look.

I purchased my palette on HSN (Link!) but you can also purchase it at Ulta (Link!) and Sephora (Link!for $39.  It's an awesome palette at an awesome price!   A definite must have for fall!

5 Things I'm Loving!

Hello there!  As we are sadly approaching the end of summer, below are 5 products that I am currently loving that will carry over into my fall makeup routine.

Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder (Link!): An absolute lifesaver!  This powder eliminates shine throughout the day without disturbing your makeup.  It's made with rice powder, so it's lightweight and super absorbent.  Don't let the pale color fool you; it is completely translucent and will work on any skin tone.

Urban Decay Subversion and Perversion Mascara (Link!): This mascara duo is absolutely amazing!  It does everything it says it does.  The primer instantly gives your lashes length and volume as soon as you put it on!  The mascara.....oh the mascara!  It's super black and the formula is a dream to work with.  It's not too dry and it's not too wet either.  Straight out of the tube it is perfect!  It's almost creamy in texture and with one coat,  you'll have amazing full and long lashes.  However, if you're like me and mascara obsessed, you will be piling it on!  Also, since the formula is so creamy, it's really great for layering or touching up at the end of the day.

Smashbox Pore Minimizing Foundation Primer (Link!): Where has this primer been all of my life?!?  It does three really important things for a girl: reduces the size of pores, controls shine for up to 8 hours, and it is sweat & humidity resistant! Hallelujah!   You can even use it to touch up throughout the day.  This stuff is awesome!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick (Link!): I've been hearing about these shadow sticks everywhere.  YouTube, blogs, magazines...EVERYWHERE!  Needless to say, I had to give them a try.  I'm so glad I did....these are fantastic shadow sticks. Beautiful texture, the colors are amazing, super long wearing and very affordable.  I got the color Bad Girl Bronze and I love it! You can wear these on their own or layer them with your favorite shadow.

                                                        XOXO,

                                                               Raven

Fresh Faced Bridal Look

I had the absolute pleasure of doing the makeup for Katherine Moeller's wedding last month on one of the most perfect Saturdays in June!  Katherine and I work together in the Customer Care group for L'Oreal's Luxe division.

Katherine requested a very fresh and natural look for her wedding day, which in my opinion is the best way to go.  You want to look like yourself but just a bit more polished.  Since Katherine is a natural beauty, this look was very easy to achieve!

Eyes

I used both the Urban Decay Naked 2 and Naked 3  palettes (Link!), Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Eyeshadows (Link), and MAC Teddy Eyeliner (Link!) to achieve a very soft look with a bit of definition.  I added two coats of L'Oreal's Voluminous Waterproof Mascara (Link!) before adding false lashes to just the outer corners of the eye.  This is a really nice way to open up the eye and add a little bit of length, while still looking natural.

Face

For me, it is very important to keep the skin looking like "skin" and not face full of heavy foundation.  I chose to use the

Garnier BB Cream (Link!) to start and then added a little bit of Lancome's Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation (Link!) where I needed a bit more coverage. Under the eyes I used the L'Oreal Visible Lift Serum Absolute Concealer (Link!) WOW!  What a fantastic concealer!!  It has great coverage but is light in texture and doesn't settle into fine lines.  I highly recommend trying this concealer!

Cheeks

I used the Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette (Link!) to bronze, highlight, and give the cheeks a natural rosy glow. This palette is simply amazing!  It has your bronzer, highligher, and blush all in one little compact.  The colors are gorgeous and they wear beautifully throughout the day.

Lips

Katherine wanted a sheer rosy lip, so we chose Bobbi Brown Pink Rose Sheer Lip Color (Link!). This lipstick was bright enough to show up in photo's but not too overpowering.

I finished the look with a spritz of the Urban Decay All Nighter Finishing Spray (Link!) to make sure the makeup lasted all night.

This look is perfect for any bride to be, and for any season.  Below are some photos of Katherine on her special day looking absolutely stunning!

The Best Affordable False Lashes!

I am really picky when it comes to false lashes.  I don't like for them to be too "full on" if you know what I mean.  I prefer them to be as natural as possible - like your own lashes but much better.

The Kiss - Looks So Natural lashes (Link!) are absolutely fantastic and I found them at Walgreens.  The lashes are tapered at the ends so they look and feel like your own.  They are very lightweight and super easy to apply.  The best part...$3.99 a pair! The lashes come with a small vial of glue, but I prefer to use the Duo lash glue that I know and love.

I recently used both the Iconic and Shy pair in a wedding that I did, and the ladies absolutely loved them. One of the bridesmaids went out the very next day and bought several pairs of them!  They are genius!

From the Office to Cocktails!

Whether you're running to an after work happy hour, meeting up with some friends or the guy in your life.....here are some quick ways to look refreshed and dialed up for the evening!

*sKin
If you have oily skin, Blotting Papers are an absolute necessity.  They remove any excess oil without disturbing your make-up. Try the Original Tatcha Blotting Papers (Link!) or the Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets (Link!). Give your skin a quick spritz of a hydrating facial spray to refresh and give the skin an instant boost. Caudalie's Beauty Elixir (Link!) and La Roche Posay's Thermal Spring Water (Link!) are my favorites.  I like to add a little brightening concealer to my eye area and the high points of the face (cheekbones, center of the nose, top of the cupid's bow, and the brow bone).  YSL's Touche Eclat (Link!) is perfect for this because it blends so easily and you can layer it throughout the day without it caking up on you.  For that candlelight glow, add a little highlighter to the tops of your cheekbones.  I like L'Oreal's Visible Lift Color Blush in Rose Gold Lift (Link!).  Don't forget to touch up your blush with your favorite color if you need to.

*eYes
No need to re-apply your eyeshadow, but if you must.... the Lancome Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Kissed by Gold (Link!) is amazing.  It's flattering on all skin tones and eye colors and it's small enough to fit in your make-up bag for touch ups.  Take a black or brown eyeliner and apply it to your lash line and smudge with your finger to create a quick smokey eye.  I like to use L'Oreal's Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner (Link!) because it's easy to apply and the fastest way to get that sultry eye look.  Take either the highlighter that you used for your face or the highlighter shade shade in the eyeshadow palette and apply it to the inner corners of your eyes to open them up.  Lastly, add a quick coat of Lancome's Hypnose Drama Mascara (Link!) to top and bottom lashes.  This mascara is the best for touching up because it doesn't clump on top of the mascara that you already applied.

 *LiPs
Always remove the old lipstick and re-apply.  Nothing is worse than caked-on-old-lipstick.  Apply a lip balm and then your favorite lipstick or lip gloss. If you're looking for a great lipstick to last all night without touching up, the Giorgio Armani Rouge D'Armani Lipsticks (Link!) are fantastic.  They feel really good on the lips and last all night.  If you're a gloss girl, then the Giorgio Armani Gloss D'Armani Glosses (Link!) are amazing as well.  They last all night and feel great on the lips too.  Pair them together for a bullet-proof lip!

Lastly, if you feel that you need to set everything, apply a finishing powder to the T-Zone.  My favorites are the Invisible Retouch Powder by Dior (Link!) and the Blot Powder by MAC (Link!)

Enjoy your cocktails!

Updated Skin Care Routine 2014!

I know what you're thinking....."How many times can a person really change their skin care routine?"  The answer is......A LOT.  Especially if you're a product junkie such as myself.  Although, I do try to keep it as consistent as possible with the basics, while introducing some new products along the way.  My skin is a bit sensitive so I have to be very selective on what I choose to add to the routine.  It's important to know that whatever products you're adding will work well with what you're already using.  However, sometimes it simply comes down to trial an error.

As I mentioned before, I LOVE to read skin care posts.  I find it very interesting to see what other people are using on their skin!  I'm excited to find out about new products, different tips on how to use them, etc.  It's just fun!

For the most part, my skin care routine is pretty much the same but I have switched up some things and added a few new products to the mix.

Just a reminder, my skin type is combination that's a bit more on the oilier side and I tend to have an occasional breakout every now and then.  I am also using more products that are geared towards anti-aging as well.  Let's get on with it!

The brands that I have been using are La Roche-PosayKiehl's, Lancome and SkinCeuticals.  I've had nothing but success with these brands and highly recommend trying some of the products if you haven't already.

Clarisonic Mia (Link!)- Not sure how on earth I forgot to mention this in my last post!  This cleansing brush is really where it all starts.  It cleanses your skin 6X better than your hands alone!  It cleanses, exfoliates, and really gets deep down into your pores to get all of the dirt and makeup out.  I highly recommend getting this brush if you don't already have one.  It will change your life!  It's an investment, but think of it as investing in your skin's health.  At least that's what I tell my husband!

*La Roche Posay's Effaclar* line (Link!) is for Acne/Oily skin and is absolutely fantastic!  I use the cleanser, toner, acne treatment, and sunscreen from this line.  I used to suffer terribly from acne in my teenage years and throughout my 20's. Now it's more hormonal acne that I'm experiencing these days and I find that this line really helps to control it.

Effaclar Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream is the cleanser that I have been using both morning and night. It deep cleanses, unclogs and tightens the pores without over drying the skin.  I use this with my Clarisonic brush and the two together are amazing.

EFFACLAR CREAM

Effaclar Toner is a micro-exfoliant toner that helps to instantly unblock and reduce pore size.  Very refreshing, exfoliates and removes any residual product on the skin. I use this at night.

EFFACLAR TONER

Effaclar Duo is an acne treatment that has a patent-pending combination of Micronized Benzoyl Peroxide [5.5%] to reduce acne and Micro-exfoliating LHA [0.4%] to exfoliate and even texture. I use this only at night.  I must say, this product is a real game changer if you suffer from acne, whether it's an occasional breakout to severe acne. It's the combination of both the LHA and the Micronized Benzoyl Peroxide that does the trick.  I absolutely cannot live without this product!

EFFACLAR DUO

Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid (Link!) is 100% Mineral Sunscreen with Cell-Ox Shield: a patent-pending combination of UV filters and a powerful anti-oxidant complex to further protect your skin.  I love this sunscreen so much because it's light, it leaves a matte finish, and it doesn't cause any breakouts.

ANTHELIOS 50 MINERAL TINTED

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate (Link!) regenerates, repairs, and replenishes for smoother, healthier skin overnight. It smells absolutely amazing and absorbs quickly into the skin. You will wake up with the most beautiful, hydrated skin ever. Lovely product!

Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Lancome Progres Eye Cream (Link!)- This is a very simple yet effective eye cream.  It simply minimizes the appearance of premature aging around the eye area.  Since it's a bit on the "thick" side and very moisturizing, I use this eye cream at night.

Progrès Eye

Lancome High Resolution Eye Refill-3X (Link!) - I have some fine lines under my eyes and I find that this eye cream really smooths them out. It's effective, wears beautifully under make-up and it doesn't irritate my eyes at all.

High Résolution Eye Refill-3X™

Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30 Cream (Link!) - Previously, I was using the Bienfait Aqua Vital cream as a daytime moisturizer.  As of late, I'm finding that my skin needs a bit more moisture these days with the weather being so cold and dry, so I wanted to try this one out.  I just bought it the other day so I can't really give you a full review, but I like it so far. It's very moisturizing, has an SPF, full of nurturing vitamins/antioxidants and does't leave my skin feeling greasy.

BIENFAIT MULTI-VITAL SPF 30 CREAM

SkinCeuticals Renew Overnight Oily Moisturizer (Link!) - This is a FANTASTIC night cream!  The Hydroxy Acid really exfoliates the skin making it smooth and radiant, while the purifying botanical extracts really help to clear acneic, congested skin.  This is all done while you sleep!  It doesn't get any better than that!

SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque (Link!) - This is a really good mask to use on all skin types, but if you have combination or oily skin it's really awesome.  I use it about once or twice a month depending on how my skin is doing.  The Hydroxy Acid blend exfoliates while the clay draws out the impurities in the skin. It's also really good to use as a quick spot treatment on a pimple.  Just dab it on the pimple with a Q-Tip and leave it on over night.
Clarifying Clay Masque

Last but not least, Raw Honey!!!  I cannot say enough great things about it. Raw honey, not to be confused with the honey that comes in the little bear shaped jar that you get in the grocery store, but 100% pure unprocessed raw honey that's been extracted right from the comb.

Its antimicrobial properties make it excellent for treating acne because it kills any bacteria or fungus on the skin.  Raw honey also contains gluconic acid and mild alpha hydroxy acid which help to brighten the complexion, even out the skin tone and lighten any hyperpigmentation spots on the skin.  This is all done....NATURALLY.

Just apply it to cleansed skin, leave it on for about 15-20 mins, 2-3 times a week.  You will definitely see a difference in your skin.  Please try to incorporate it into your skin care routine...you will not be sorry! Before you do, I suggest doing a patch test to make sure that you are not allergic!

Whew!  There you have it, my updated skin care routine!  If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I will be happy to answer them if I can.  Please remember, I am not a dermatologist but I am very passionate about skin care and I know what works best for my skin.  I encourage everyone to really get to know their skin. It's very important because you only get one face.  Well, the one that you were born with at least!  ;-)

*Tips*
  • Whatever treatment that you are using on your face, be sure to bring them down the neck and onto the decolletage.  A lot of people forget about their neck and I don't understand that. Think about it...what you'll have is a beautiful, young looking face and then a turkey neck??!!??  I don't get it.
  • Don't rush your skincare routine.  We are all busy with work and our families, but take the time to let your skincare products work.  Really massage that cleanser into your skin, let your serum absorb for 3-5 mins before putting on your moisturizer, and massage the moisturizer into your skin in an upwards motion to really get the blood flowing.  DON'T FORGET YOUR NECK!
  • Always, Always, Always....remove your make-up before bed.  Your skin repairs itself at night, so if you leave the make-up on that you've been wearing all day while sleeping, it will penetrate deep into the pores causing breakouts.  YUCK!
  • Wear....your.....SUNSCREEN!
  • I love make-up remover wipes, I really do.  They are an effective way to remove make-up prior to cleansing but please be gentle with them.  Especially around the eye area.  You never want to tug and pull the skin anywhere on your face. That's what causes wrinkles.  Take your time.
  • Exfoliate-but don't over do it.  All of your products will work so much better with freshly, exfoliated skin.
  • Most importantly.....you are what you eat!  Green juice never hurt anyone!

                       XOXO,
                           Raven

Dry Hands?

My hands are almost ALWAYS dry, no matter the season...DRY.  In addition, being germaphobic really doesn't help much with this issue either.  Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve (Link!)  has completely saved them.  This hand cream is extremely moisturizing but not greasy at all.  It's a bit on the heavy side, so a little goes quite a long way!

Here's to soft and moisturized hands!
